I’ve been dancing all my life and I love to travel! In this blog, I want to share my experiences, the dances I’ve seen and learnt, the places I’ve been to and the friends I’ve made in the hope of sharing my passions for travel and dance!
Everywhere I’ve been I’ve sought out dance experiences: learning, practising, watching… anything. As I’ve travelled and met people through dance I’ve been invited into their homes and their lives, cooked with them, eaten with them, rode on the backs of their scooters through city streets and potholed village lanes. Through dance, I have made friends around the world, and been brought closer to strangers through a shared passion.
The place where I have been has not always been linked to the dance I experienced there, so while I learnt legong with local teachers in Bali and flamenco in Andalusia, I danced samba with Brazilians in Paris and New York and learnt Bharatanatyam from a Kazakhstani in Hong Kong. This is the nature of global trans-local dance families: dancers stay at home or move away, but wherever they are their joy is to practise and share their dance.
In 2015 I completed a PhD in Global Perspectives on Dance, describing the defining movement of dance styles and how they become locally adapted in global locations. My research and my passion took me to many places and introduced me to amazing people, and it is these experiences that I am going to share…
